In production workshops with flammable and explosive volatile gases such as those in the chemical, pharmaceutical, lithium battery, ink and coating industries, ordinary water chillers carry severe potential safety hazards. Water-cooled explosion-proof chillers are special refrigeration equipment designed specifically for hazardous working conditions.
The motors and electric control boxes of ordinary water-cooled chillers only meet basic dustproof and waterproof standards. Electric sparks generated during equipment startup, shutdown, or short-circuit faults can easily ignite flammable vapors such as acetone, alcohol, and electrolyte in workshops. In contrast, all live electrical components of explosion-proof water-cooled chillers undergo flameproof sealing modifications.
Explosion-proof Pump Set Motor
The water circulation pump and lubricating oil pump of the equipment are equipped with thickened flameproof blue explosion-proof motors. The shell undergoes precision sealing and grinding, which can block sparks and high temperatures generated inside from leaking out. Explosion-proof sealing joints are installed at the cable outlets of motors and oil pumps to prevent flammable gases from seeping into the motors along the cables. Although the hydraulic structure of the lower water circulation pump is identical to that of ordinary water pumps, its driving motor must also be explosion-proof to eliminate ignition sources at the power source.

Ex Explosion-Proof Electric Control Cabinet
The cabinet is marked with a distinct "Ex" explosion-proof label and serves as the core control unit of the complete equipment. It is fabricated with thickened steel plates, and the joint surface of the cabinet door functions as a flameproof sealing surface. Even if short circuits cause sparks from contactors or wiring inside the cabinet, blast waves and electric arcs will be contained within the cabinet body. The touch screen and operating buttons adopt double-layer sealed explosion-proof treatment, and explosion-proof sealing cable glands are installed at cable entry and exit ports. A formal nameplate with explosion-proof qualification is affixed to the cabinet, while ordinary electric control cabinets for water chillers feature no explosion-proof structures or compliance certifications. All internal circuit breakers, relays and temperature control modules are dedicated explosion-proof components.

Explosion-proof Upgrade of Core Components of Refrigeration Main Unit
The unit adopts a shell-and-tube condenser dedicated to water cooling and a semi-hermetic piston compressor. Its heat exchange principle is consistent with that of ordinary water-cooled units, yet explosion-proof adaptation is implemented for core components:
The compressor is equipped with an independent explosion-proof wiring chamber to isolate electric arcs generated when the motor is energized; all temperature and pressure monitoring probes are replaced with explosion-proof transmitters, and the solenoid valve coils are fitted with flameproof enclosures; pipelines are wrapped with flame-retardant thermal insulation layers to prevent combustible media from contacting high-temperature pipelines. Meanwhile, metal sealing gaskets are used for pipeline flanges to greatly reduce the risk of refrigerant and secondary coolant leakage.
